Metal Master Expanding

For the past 38 years, Metal Masters has been located at 23618 US 76 in Newberry, but that will soon change when the company relocates across the street.

"We are land locked at this location, and we have just outgrown this location," said Wayne McCullough, owner and president of Metal Masters. "We have been in business for 43 years, and at our current location for 38 of those years."

Metal Master provides metalwork, welding, mechanical services and fabrication contracting to the majority of the county's industry, like Kraft, Caterpillar and Komatsu.

The decision to build a new facility has been a year in the making and was made around the time they built their powdercoating facility.

"Powdercoating is applied electrostatically and then baked," said Blair Williams, engineer with Metal Masters.

The new building will be located across the street from the current location, and will be next door to the powdercoating facility. McCullough said he bought the land from Harold Pitts, who owns a farm in the area. Roebuck Building Co. in Spartanburg is building the facility.

"Roebuck as the company that built our original building over 30 years ago," McCullough said.

The construction process will take six months, and will cost a little over $3 million. When complete, the new building will sit on 13 acres and will encompass over 40,000 square feet. The facility will include a new machine shop, fabrication shop and offices.

"The new building will be roughly double what we have now," Williams said.
Ground has already been broken on the new site, and according to Williams, the land will be completely cleared by the middle of November. By the middle to end of December, the concrete foundation will be poured. Williams said the longest part of construction will be putting up the actual building, and finishing the offices.

The electricity for the structure has already been made ready, and was the first thing to be done.

"Newberry Electric has done a great job transferring the electricity, they already have it hot over there," McCullough said.
