Small Business Development Center Reopens

After months of planning to reopen, the Small Business Development Center(SBDC) is proud to announce the reopening of its office in Newberry, SC. The office is located in the Dufford House (Alumni & Church Relations building) on the campus of Newberry College.

The effort is supported by Newberry College, the City of Newberry, Newberry County, the SC SBDC and several local businesses, organizations, and banks. Bob Pettit, Area Manager of the Columbia SBDC said "This is truly a community partnership."

The Small Business Development Center at Newberry College has reopened under the management of Nancy Williamson, the Business Consultant for that office. Nancy has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration - Management from Peru State College in Peru, Nebraska. Nancy graduated with a 4.0 GPA in 2000, and says that Newberry College reminds her very much of her alma mater Peru State - the historical buildings, the small surrounding community, the friendly family-like atmosphere and personable staff that treats students like people, rather than numbers.

Nancy brings with her a wide variety of business structure experience to this position. She has worked for a large national corporation, a mid-size local LLC, and has also dabbled in small home-based businesses. Most recently, Nancy has worked for a smaller company as the Accounting and Marketing Administrator. Her diverse background with several different types of organizations gives her a great understanding of the many types of businesses that she will be helping in Newberry as the Business Consultant for the SBDC.

Nancy is charged with carrying out the SBDC Mission, which is to provide quality managerial and technical assistance for new and existing business owners. The office offers free and confidential business consulting. Workshops will be presented on a variety of business topics for a nominal fee.
